Last weekend was the annual blueberry fest at Henscratch Farms. My family (even my hubby took the day off) went out there bright and early. Ok, so it was 10AM by the time we got there. Even though the 'fests" in our po-dunk little town are pretty much all the same vendors over and over again, the thought of blueberries made my mouth water.
Sophia got to pet her first horse, who even bent his head to her level for a good pat. Then she chased some ducks and chickens around. We had some blueberry ice cream treats and I bought some delicious farm fresh eggs.
Then things took a horrible turn...
After feeding the chickens Sophia went to the pen that housed baby chicks and this huge rabbit. Now, I hate rabbits so I stayed back while Sean went with her. I was, ironically, talking to my friend Shari about how much I hate rabbits and suddenly my baby stared screaming. Sean picked her up and I went numb when Iwas all the blood gushing from her finger. The evil rabbit had taken a bite of my baby!
The blood just poured out and the people around were so incredibly dense. They just stood there saying "oh the poor baby." It was like get us some frickin' water or a towel. Thankfully one helpful stranger found some paper towels and got help. (Remember 1 person out of all the people at the festival).
So long story short, Sophia is fine, now. the rabbit had its rabies shot and she had her tetanus and the bleeding finally stopped so we didn't take her to the hospital. We did take her to the doctor that Monday and she got some medicine to prevent infection. She was a very brave girl and hopefully she'll never want a rabbit as a pet, and if she does I'll just remind her of this story.
