It happened again, this afternoon someone came only inches from slamming into my car. Many drivers here drive too fast and too reckless and the city does nothing to prevent the multiple accents that happen everyday. They can plainly see both in DOT statistics and by just watching the evening traffic reports how bad things are on the highways and city streets. If that weren't enough, there is the compounded problem that drivers do not keep insurance on their cars and there is no city or state regulatory system to quickly identify the people and take away their licenses, as other states do. So these people drive with little thought to others, hit them and the victims may not even get reimbursed of the other person doesn't have insurance.
I think the city needs to step up their game in improving the safety of our streets and highways. They need to lower the speed limits in high traffic areas and have more law enforcement out to stop traffic offenders. They need cameras at traffic lights to monitor those you continue going through the lights even after it has turned red. The state needs to do more to ensure drivers are qualified to drive in the state my making drivers education mandatory for any new driver getting their first license and require every new driver to the state to take a written driving test. The state should also more closely monitor insurance by requiring insurance companies to notify the secretary of state whenever someone insurance lapses and given them 10 days to reinstate it or cause their license to become invalid.
