Three years ago I watch Al GORE"S "An Inconvient Truth" then went out and bought all new light bulbs for our house. I have always been Earth Friendly in spirit but not usually in practice, though I have never been totally wasteful because it is always there in my mind. However, something in the movie finally got me going. In edition to a house full of energy efficient light bulbs, I made the first strides to recycling. It took 2 years, but now am I pretty devoted to the Recycling thing (I just wish we had curbside).
This year our family made two huge steps in better our ways and the Earth. We started a garden to grow our own food (starting small though), and we have gone vegetarian (minus dairy and eggs). I also but mostly organic foods when possible (not so easier in Nowhereville) and get my fruits and veggies in season at the local you-pick farm (McCracken Farms). The produce is organic and hydroponically grown and Cheap! way Cheaper then the store and SO much tastier.
The one thing I've noticed since going organic is all the flavors I am tasting now. I admit meat food is good, but the flavor you are tasting is fat, grease, butter and I think it must coat your moth so you don''t taste any other flavors because I am loving the tastes I am experiencing by not eating meat. To Clarify, Evie is getting chicken only because it is real hard to find baby food for her age with no chicken broth or other meats in it. However, Sophia, who has never really liked meat anyways is doing fine on our new diet. She loves the Morning Star "fake" Ribs. She is still adjusting to the mixing of foods I do (she like things separated), but she LOVES beans and rice. The best thing is it isn't costing us any more, in fact my grocery bills have gone done.
Now the hard part is finding organic tofu. Goodness I miss living by a Whole Foods

wow a whole year missed
I guess that happens after a baby.
Well, Evie came into the world in July and has been keeping us on our toes ever since.
